Introduction to the Escape the Vape campaign
In June 2023, Bracknell Forest Council and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) commissioned Healthy Dialogues to carry out insights work into young people’s use of and attitudes towards e-cigarettes and vaping. As part of this report’s recommendations, it was agreed that the councils co-produce a communications plan with its messaging and channel delivery co-designed with young people across both boroughs, using the behavioural insights COM-B approach.
The aim of the school poster campaign is to inform and educate young people aged 13 to 18 years about the negative effects of vaping at their age. The posters were created in collaboration with Bracknell Forest Young Health Champions, and young people in RBWM. The purpose is to empower them to avoid starting to vape and for those not yet fully addicted to it to stop.
The ‘escape the vape’ campaign is not aimed at young people already fully addicted to vaping as this would require different messaging plus external primary care support which is beyond both council’s sphere of influence. We have produced a set of three posters to send to secondary schools in both boroughs, to be placed on toilet doors and other communal areas, as seen appropriate by each school. These can be provided as printed posters, or schools can download and print from these webpages.
