LARC Long-Acting Reversible Contraception

Speak to your GP practice to find out if they provide LARC services. If they do not, ask to be referred to a participating GP practice or the local sexual health service that can provide fitting and ongoing care.

Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) is a type of contraception that works for a long time without you needing to remember it every day.

There are four types:

• The implant
• The contraceptive injection
• The copper coil (IUD)
• The hormonal coil (IUS)

Depending on the type you choose, it can work for 3 to 10 years.

LARC is one of the most effective ways to prevent pregnancy.

If you decide you want to become pregnant, your fertility usually returns once the implant or coil is removed, or after the effects of the injection have worn off.
