NRT – Lozenges

How they work

Lozenges dissolve slowly in the mouth and can be more discrete than gum. They take about 20-30 minutes to dissolve.

How to choose

Lozenges come in different strengths.  If you reach for a cigarette within 30 minutes of waking up, you are likely to be more dependent and the 4mg dose is more likely to help with your cravings, otherwise a lower dose will be adequate.

How to use them

To release the nicotine, suck until the taste becomes strong or hot. After this, rest the lozenge inside your cheek – once the taste fades you will need to suck again to release more nicotine.

You should use lozenges for about 12 weeks. For the first six weeks you should have one lozenge every one to two hours. You should then reduce your intake to one lozenge every two to four hours, finally reducing to once every four to eight hours in the last two weeks of treatment.
