CommUnity Expo Summer 2018

Local community groups took the opportunity to showcase their contribution to health and wellbeing this summer at CommUnity Expo 2018 – part of the Warm Welcome Programme run by the council’s Public Health Team.

The event at the Bracknell Open Learning Centre in Bracknell was opened by Cllr Dale Birch, Executive Member for Adult Social Care, Health and Housing. The Expo attracted over 100 people, including Bracknell MP Dr Phillip Lee, representatives from local health services and visitors from as far afield as Medway and Sheffield Councils.

This event gives a platform to local groups, clubs, societies, events and activities that offer a friendly, warm environment and connect people to the wider community.

The Director of Public Health Bracknell Forest Council said, “Social isolation is linked to early death and everything from heart disease to depression and cognitive decline. These small groups, in the heart of our communities, run by local people for local people, help people enjoy the life they want to live.”

Cllr. Birch said, “People cherish their independence. When exploring care needs, we must look after the whole person – including social wellbeing. Health and social care practitioners can now do that by linking people to over 400 groups and activities in our local community.”

To find things to do near you, search “Warm Welcome Bracknell Forest” or call the Social Prescription ring back service on 01344 352000 and one of social prescribers will get back to you.
